REDIMED launches skin checks for Netball WA Members with Hon Mia Davies MLA

Netball WA and West Coast Fever Sponsor REDIMED today launched a positive and proactive initiative ahead of summer, with free skin checks available to all registered Netball WA members.
With a season of record temperatures approaching, REDIMED will open the doors of their Joondalup, Belmont and Rockingham clinics to Netball WA’s 45,000 strong membership base for the entire month of January.
Skin cancer poses a significant and ongoing threat to Australians, with more than 2,000 dying each year, while two in three Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer by the age of 70.
However, it is also one of the most preventable cancers, with early detection through regular skin checks vital in the treatment process.
“We aspire to be a leader among state sporting governing bodies in terms of the support and wellbeing of our members,” Netball WA CEO Taylor said.
“The outdoor nature of our game means participants, both on and off the court, are susceptible to skin problems, so we are proud to work with such a valued partner as REDIMED for the benefit of our players, coaches, officials, volunteers and supporters.”
A sentiment reiterated by REDIMED Chief Commercial Officer, Nick Sautner.
“Australia is the skin cancer capital of the world but having a simple skin check is the first of a series of steps in reversing that trend,” Sautner said.
“Sporting groups are exposed to the sun on a regular basis so it’s tremendous to see an organisation like Netball WA actively seek opportunities to safeguard their members.”
Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies, who attended the launch today, welcomed the initiative and reminded all West Australians to be mindful of sun protection.
“The State Government encourages people of all ages to get outdoors and get active – both through playing organised sports like netball or something as simple as going for a walk on the beach.
“With this encouragement comes the reminder that we all need to be careful about sun exposure and have regular skin checks.”
Netball WA members are encouraged to contact one of REDIMED’s clinics located in Joondalup, Belmont or Rockingham to book their free skin cancer check for January.
